Not really what I expected. The room was spacious, it was quiet and comfortable but there wasn't enough attention to detail. There was no air conditioning but no fans available either. My partner went down to reception late at night but there was no night porter around. It would have been nice to have had a bottle of water in our room as well as the tea and coffee. The member of staff who directed us to our room looked scruffy. The car park cost £10. Just little things, really, but they added up to give an overall impression. We probably won't stay again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Winchester Royal Hotel and would certainly use the hotel again should we be in the Winchester area. Staff are all very friendly and helpful and location of the hotel is excellent for experiencing all that Winchester offers. The dining room offers all meals served by well-trained and pleasant staff.

Went to stay at the Mercure Wessex Hotel. All the staff that I met were all so friendly and helpful. The hotel is right next door to the Cathedral, but unfortunately I could not see it as the trees were blocking the view. You can however see the Cathedral from the restaurant and bar. All the staff there are friendly and helpful. Special mention should be made for Esther and Heralds in the bar and Natasha on reception. Message to management look after them they are good. The only downers for my stay was that the TV did not have any radio channels and the room did not have a room safe The hotel is a modern hotel, but as it is low riseit does not spoil the architecture of the city. The room I had was nice and spacious. Will definitely be staying there again.
A comfortable hotel with huge bed. A very central position and under cover car parking at £12 a night. Our room had views across the cathedral close. Staff were friendly and responded quickly to requests. The restaurant lacked atmosphere but waiting staff very attentive. Not sure why I had to use a credit card for payment when I would have preferred to use cash or a debit card.

Lovely hotel with great facilities. The gym is really good, with great machines and the pool is nice too. Rooms are fairly basic but pleasant. My only complaint is that you aren't provided with dressing gowns, given that it's a spa too they should be provided for free (not 7.50). The afternoon tea is great, with good service. Breakfast is yummy too. Brilliant place to stay.
One night of two but so far excellent. Room clean and quiet. Powerful shower and loads of hot water. Wide range of food at breakfast buffet. Staff polite and attentive.

The Green Man is one of the most relaxing and quirky pubs in Winchester with an extensive range of quality food, wines and spirits. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and will always find the time to go the extra mile. The food menu changes regularly and whenever we have eaten here we've left satisfied. The only negative is that it isn't a cheap night out but you do get what you pay for so I can't complain too much! Part of the independantly run 'Little Pub Group', there are a variety of incentives to visit their other local venues that all boast different characters but the same core quality of experience.
Had our wedding breakfast here. Fantastic food, service and general organisation from really helpful and friendly staff.

The Bell Inn is your typical English pub, which is great. In a sea of chain bars and gastropubs the tradition British pub is becoming a rarity and The Bell Inn has a consistent group of regulars with a nice family friendly vibe to the place. There is a good range of tradition pub grub with a friendly and efficient bar team and a large beer garden to enjoy the weather. We often walk around the St Cross area and finish with a pint and some food.
I visited Winchester to attend a family funeral and had a rest at The Bell Inn and the staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming, serving me food and drink and a place to change my clothes. I have never been made so welcome anywhere and highly recommend the service, food and wine. Thank you all for making my day a pleasure and not a hardship.

A quaint pub from another time. The Wykeham Arms has a beautiful historic interior styling with knick-knacks from throughout it's history adorning the walls. It has a good selection of rooms to stay in if you're visiting Winchester for a few days (or if you've had one too many at one of their special event nights!). The food is of a good standard with a varied seasonal menu and the service on the whole is on point. Their roast dinner or fish & chips are amazing.
My wife and I called in for a drink on our wedding anniversary as this was where friends and family gathered for a meal the evening before our wedding in 1981! The pub is "wallpapered" with memorabilia of a historic and political nature. I would love to have the time to look at it all. There are at least four rooms where you can eat plus a garden. The staff are friendly and courteous.

Excellent service from Mulberry Cottages and Belinda at Hollies House in Chichester. Mulberry Cottages staff were helpful, efficient and informative on the phone when booking and the information provided to us about our break was comprehensive and useful. Hollies House was simply stunning. Beautiful, well decorated and equipped rooms, comfy beds, thick curtains, stunning garden and great location. The house has lots of toys and equipment for children, all thoughtfully stashed away in accessible cupboards. We had a great time at Hollies House and would recommend it to anyone considering a family break in West Sussex.

I stayed in this lovely house for five days and found it very convenient for everything. It is so close to shops and restaurants and in a very quiet location. The house is extremely well equipped and comfortable. The only drawback for me was that I could only use the parking permit (which is supplied) to park on the street once so I had to pay for full days in the public car park (which is very close by), so it became rather expensive. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it.
Honeysuckle Cottage is superbly located for the High Street and city centre. It is well equipped and accomodated our family of four (two young children) comfortably for a week. There is no parking on St Clement St. and, although narrow, there is little traffic which means that loading and unloading is not a problem. A visitor's parking permit is supplied for designated neighbouring streets. However, spaces are at a premium during busy periods. As to be expected for a central location, there is some late night noise from the pub and restaurant nearby. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return in the near future.

Very pleasant stay. Good location near downtown and John (the host) was very friendly and made a good English breakfast.

We had a superb stay
If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
Clarendon Way, Winchester SO22 5QL, UK
Its a Scout camp site. The camping areas are nicely segregated, with woodland paths linking each clearing. Running water taps for each clearing and an ash pit for your fires. Superb camp fire circle with four rows of tiered benches. It looses a point for the toilet, which is best described as serviceable. The (only) men's shower was warm and wet - which is than I can say of some..
Our scouts always enjoy camping here.
